Title:Restaurant General Manager 

Reports To: F&B Director, 21c Museum Hotels 

Supervises: Front of House and Back of House team members 

General Purpose: The Restaurant Manager manages overall operations of the restaurant, including the selection, development, and performance management of FOH teammates. In addition, they oversee the inventory and ordering of food and supplies, optimize profits and ensure that guests are satisfied with their dining experience. 

Specific Responsibilities: 

  • Supervises and leads restaurant team. 
  • Ensures the highest and most efficient level of service expected by the guest. 
  • Ensures the restaurant is staffed sufficiently for each meal period. 
  • Oversees the weekly schedule made by the restaurant manager. 
  • Writes the weekly manager schedule. 
  • Works to keep Garage Bar staff morale high. 
  • Train, train, and train staff some more.  Give verbal and written quizzes often. 
  • Leads professional development of restaurant managers. 
  • Constantly seek improvement in self, team and Garage Bar. 
  • Maintains and enforces steps of service protocols and standards of service. 
  • Ensures all employees follow service standards. 
  • Drives revenue and controls costs: food, beverage, labor & operating. 
  • Rolls up sleeves and is willing to 'get dirty' in an effort to keep standards high, or to cut staff where possible and save the restaurant money. 
  • Ensure cleanliness (of staff, restaurant). 
  • Ensures that staff adheres to uniforms/dress guidelines. 
  • Creates a total awareness of in-house VIPs and review names with staff members during pre-service meetings. 
  • Fields all guest requests menus, special requests, etc. 
  • Cultivates a following of regulars. 
  • Maintains a positive, friendly attitude with staff & guests. 
  • Responsible for keeping all FOH equipment operational, (i.e. telephones, computer, printer, Micros). 
  • Oversees hiring and termination of all employees. 
  • Implements training policies, program and schedule for new hires. 
  • Keeps all training documents up to date and accessible. 
  • Communicates status of re-training needs for new hires and other teammates to rest of FOH team. 
  • Oversees all team reviews divide and conquer, and administers all FOH manager reviews. 
  • Implements and administers employee reward program (contests & gift cards). 
  • Completes new hire paperwork to be given to HR and payroll management. 
  • Completes and submits Personnel Action Forms for all teammate gains/losses/status changes 
  • Handle and resolve all teammate concerns. 
  • Reviews and approves time clock activity 
  • Leads daily and weekly meetings as required. 
  • Oversee development of the beverage program. 
  • Creates and implements revenue generating programs/systems/promotions/events/sales contests. 
  • Leads the charge when planning and developing special events. Delegates to management team in order to adequately prepare for events and so that all bases are covered. 
  • Supervises special promotions and events held in Garage Bar. 
  • Fields donation requests and decides when to provide donations. 
  • Meets with vendors to purchase new items, explore best pricing. 
  • Adjust, adjust, adjust.  The operation is growing and changing.  Management must be able to adjust to new ideas and circumstances.  They will lead the team by example in this regard.   
  • Engage and participate in the community as a Garage Bar representative, for example NuLu business Association, NuLu Festival, etc. 


  • Competent with Windows-based computers and Microsoft Office and familiar with industry standard software. 
  • Demonstrates enthusiasm for Garage Bar 
  • Must pass a background check. 

Education/Formal Training: 

  • Some college education. 
  • Advanced wine, beer and spirits knowledge 


  • Minimum five to eight years of experience in a high volume, high quality restaurant. 
  • Minimum two years management/supervisory experience. 

Travel Requirements: 

  • Minimal Travel
